Melanie Trevelyn, a fellow mummy blogger, sent me her first novel a while back. I'm a bit of a snacker when it comes to reading -- I have about 10 at my bedside. I often read the first few chapters, put it down for a break and then pick it up again a few months later.
That's exactly what I did with Mel's Tumbling Through Life, the story of a single barrister, Caroline Lawson (great name, BTW) who represents celebrity clients in a larger chamber in London. She "tumbles" between relationships and in the end the nice guy wins. Love it.
The novel is filled with the "me" factor; there are several areas that struck a chord. I liked reading about single life again, remembering so well those days of nothing to worry about except your career and next date. I could relate to Caroline the career woman, and several of the characters in her office, and of course the ups and downs of relationships and becoming a mummy.
Tumbling through life is very readable and fast-moving. It has the feel-good factor. All in all I enjoyed it very much. Thanks Melanie, and congratulations, it is quite a feat to get this far and good luck with your next novel.
